Dehradun, June 16: In a significant development for pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has announced that helicopter services to Kedarnath Dham will resume from Monday, June 17. The decision comes after a temporary suspension of flights due to adverse weather and operational reviews.
The resumption aims to facilitate smoother travel for devotees, particularly the elderly and those unable to complete the difficult trek on foot. According to official sources from the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), all safety protocols have been re-evaluated, and necessary clearances have been obtained to ensure seamless operations.
“We have completed the required inspections, and weather conditions are now favorable for resuming services,” an official from UCADA said. “The helicopters will operate from the Phata, Sirsi, and Guptkashi helipads, offering convenient access to Kedarnath shrine.”
The Char Dham Yatra, which includes visits to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, attracts lakhs of pilgrims each year. Kedarnath, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 11,755 feet, remains one of the most sought-after destinations among devotees.
Earlier this season, heavy rainfall and foggy conditions had led authorities to ground flights temporarily. With skies now clearing up, the state machinery is working on ensuring that the remaining season progresses without disruption.
The Uttarakhand government has also advised pilgrims to pre-book helicopter tickets through authorized portals and avoid relying on touts or unofficial agents.
Officials have reiterated the importance of health checkups and proper acclimatization before heading to high-altitude locations. Medical assistance and rest zones have been strengthened along the route.
The revival of helicopter services is expected to ease congestion and provide much-needed relief to those facing challenges on the mountainous route. Authorities have urged all passengers to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued for aerial travel to Kedarnath.
